Split a PDF file online

Pull out a page range, or split a long PDF into several smaller files.

Sometimes you only need a handful of pages out of a much longer PDF — a single chapter, a signed page, one invoice out of a batch. Split PDF handles both directions of that job: pull a specific page range out as a single new PDF, or split a whole document into multiple files at a fixed interval (every N pages), downloaded together as one ZIP.

How to split pdf

  1. Drop your PDF file into the upload area — maximum 50 MB.
  2. Choose "Extract a page range" for one output file, or "Split into multiple files" to break it up every N pages.
  3. Enter the page range (e.g. 3-7) or the split interval.
  4. Click "Split PDF" — a page-range result downloads as a single PDF; a multi-file split downloads as a ZIP (sign-in required for ZIP output).

Common use cases

  • Pull out just the signature page of a contract to send separately.
  • Extract a single chapter from a long report or ebook.
  • Break a scanned multi-document batch into individual files, every 2 or 3 pages.
  • Share only the relevant pages of a PDF instead of the whole document.

Frequently asked questions

What page range formats are supported?+

Comma-separated numbers and ranges, e.g. "1-3,5,8". The tool validates the range before you can run it.

Do I need to sign in to extract a page range?+

No — a single-file, single-output page range extraction is available to guests, same as the rest of the free tier.

Do I need to sign in to split into multiple files?+

Yes — that mode produces a ZIP of multiple files, and ZIP downloads are a Free-tier (signed-in) feature across this whole site.

What if my page range is out of bounds?+

You will get a specific inline error before anything is submitted — we never produce a broken or empty file.

What happens to my file afterward?+

Files are processed over HTTPS and deleted from our servers after 1 hour — the same retention policy as every other tool on this site. We never open, read, or share the contents of your files beyond what is needed to run this operation.
